Singapore Airlines has reclaimed the top spot in global aviation, being named the World’s Best Airline for 2026 at the Skytrax World Airline Awards in London.
Singapore Airlines has returned to the summit of the global airline industry after being named the World’s Best Airline for 2026, marking the sixth time the Singapore flag carrier has received the prestigious title.
The award was announced on September 18 at a ceremony at The Langham Hotel in London, where airlines from around the world gathered for the annual Skytrax World Airline Awards. The awards are based on the opinions of millions of airline passengers and are widely known as the “Oscars of the aviation industry.”
Singapore Airlines moved back into first place after finishing second in the previous ranking. Qatar Airways, which held the No. 1 position in 2025, took second place this year, followed by Cathay Pacific Airways in third. ANA All Nippon Airways ranked fourth, while Turkish Airlines completed the top five.
The latest recognition adds to Singapore Airlines’ long-standing reputation for passenger service. The carrier last won the overall World’s Best Airline title in 2023, making its 2026 victory its sixth overall win in the history of the awards.
Singapore Airlines also collected several other major honours this year, including World’s Best Economy Class, World’s Best Economy Class Onboard Catering and Best Airline in Asia. The airline ranked second in the World’s Best Cabin Crew category.
The results were based on a global passenger survey conducted between September 2025 and August 2026. More than 24.8 million travellers participated, with more than 300 airlines included in the survey. Skytrax said participants represented more than 100 nationalities, with survey responses screened for duplicate, suspicious and ineligible entries.
The victory comes as the airline industry continues to face pressure from higher operating costs, fuel-price volatility and supply-chain challenges. Singapore Airlines and its low-cost subsidiary Scoot nevertheless carried a record 42.4 million passengers during the 2025–26 financial year, according to CNA, an increase of 7.7% from the previous year.
The airline’s return to No. 1 also comes during a year of intense competition among Asia’s major carriers. Qatar Airways, despite dropping to second place overall, secured several major awards, including World’s Best Business Class Airline and the inaugural World’s Best Onboard Wi-Fi award. Cathay Pacific took the World’s Best Cabin Crew title.
For Singapore Airlines, the 2026 result represents a return to the highest position in one of the aviation industry’s most closely watched passenger rankings. With its sixth Skytrax title and multiple additional awards, the carrier has once again placed its service and onboard experience at the centre of the global aviation spotlight.
