One Dead After Frontier Airlines Plane Strikes Intruder on Runway During Takeoff at Denver Airport

2 min read

A person was killed after being struck by a departing Frontier Airlines aircraft on a runway at Denver International Airport, triggering a major emergency response and the evacuation of all 224 passengers onboard.

The incident occurred late Saturday as the Frontier Airlines flight was accelerating for takeoff. According to airport officials, the aircraft hit an unidentified individual who had somehow gained access to a restricted runway area moments before departure. Pilots immediately aborted the takeoff after feeling the impact and alerted air traffic control.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene, but the individual was pronounced dead at the airport. Authorities have not yet released the victim’s identity or explained how the person entered the secured airfield. Investigators are examining surveillance footage and security records as part of an ongoing inquiry.

Passengers onboard described a chaotic scene as the aircraft came to a sudden stop on the runway. Flight attendants initiated emergency evacuation procedures, deploying inflatable slides while police, firefighters and medical teams surrounded the aircraft. Airport officials confirmed that all 224 passengers and crew members were safely evacuated, with several people treated for minor injuries related to the evacuation.

In a statement, Frontier Airlines said the crew “acted swiftly and professionally to ensure the safety of everyone onboard” and pledged full cooperation with federal investigators. The airline also arranged support services and alternate travel plans for affected passengers.

Operations at Denver International Airport experienced temporary delays as runway access was restricted during the investigation. Several incoming and outgoing flights were diverted or postponed while authorities processed the scene.

The Federal Aviation Administration and local law enforcement agencies are leading the investigation into the fatal incident. Officials said there is currently no indication of terrorism, though all possibilities remain under review until investigators determine how the intruder reached the runway.

The tragedy has raised renewed concerns about airport perimeter security and runway safety at one of the busiest airports in the United States. Aviation experts say unauthorized access to active runways is extremely rare due to extensive fencing, surveillance systems and patrols designed to prevent such breaches.

Authorities are expected to release additional details after reviewing airport security footage and interviewing witnesses.
