Iranians Face New Travel Rules: Visas Now Mandatory for Most Countries

2 min read

Iranian citizens now face stricter international travel rules as most countries require visas before allowing entry. This change affects those traveling for tourism, business, work, or study, making spontaneous trips abroad increasingly difficult.

Previously, Iranians could enter several countries without a visa or obtain one on arrival. Now, European nations, North America, and many Asian countries demand advance visa approval. Travelers must submit documents such as travel itineraries, hotel reservations, financial statements, and sometimes letters of invitation.

Travel agencies in Tehran report a sharp increase in visa applications. Many Iranians planning summer vacations, study abroad, or business trips are now facing longer waiting periods. “We are receiving record numbers of visa requests for Europe, the U.S., Canada, and Australia,” said travel agency manager Sara Moshiri.

The change is part of a global trend aimed at improving border security and standardizing entry rules. While some countries in Asia, Africa, and the Caribbean still allow visa-free or visa-on-arrival travel for Iranians, authorities advise checking requirements before departure.

Students and workers are also affected. Universities and employers now require visas months in advance, making planning more complex. Experts warn that these restrictions could impact tourism, international education, and business travel for Iranians in 2026.

Officials urge travelers to prepare early, submit complete visa applications, and allow extra processing time. “Planning ahead is essential. Incomplete documents or late applications could prevent travel,” a government travel official said.

The new rules mark a significant shift in international mobility for Iranian citizens, highlighting how passport strength and global diplomatic relations affect travel freedom. With countries tightening border controls, travelers must adjust to a world where advance planning is more important than ever.
