Air Serbia has achieved a significant milestone in its growth journey, carrying one million passengers on its long-haul network since launching intercontinental operations in 2016. The achievement highlights the airline’s expanding global presence and growing demand for direct international travel connections from Serbia.
The national carrier said the milestone reflects nearly a decade of steady growth and reinforces its role in strengthening Serbia’s connectivity with key markets across North America and Asia. Since introducing long-haul services, Air Serbia has established direct flights from Belgrade to major international destinations including New York, Chicago, Guangzhou, and Shanghai, positioning the Serbian capital as an increasingly important gateway between Europe, North America, and China.
The achievement comes at a pivotal moment for the airline, following the recent launch of direct flights between Belgrade and Toronto. The service marks the restoration of a route that had been absent for 34 years and represents a major step in reconnecting Serbia with its large diaspora community in Canada. Industry observers view the route as a strategic addition that addresses long-standing passenger demand while creating new opportunities for tourism, business travel, and trade.
Air Serbia Chief Executive Officer Jiří Marek described the one-million-passenger mark as a testament to customer confidence in the airline’s services over the past decade. He noted that the milestone coincides with a period of network expansion and renewed investment in long-haul operations.
The airline is also preparing to celebrate the tenth anniversary of its Belgrade–New York service, one of its flagship routes and a cornerstone of its intercontinental strategy. The continued expansion of the long-haul network is expected to further strengthen Belgrade’s position as a regional aviation hub and provide travelers with improved access to major destinations around the world.
The milestone underscores Air Serbia’s transformation into a key player in regional aviation and reflects the growing importance of international connectivity for economic development. With demand for long-distance travel continuing to recover and expand, the airline appears well positioned to build on its success and pursue further growth in the years ahead.
