North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening relations with China, describing his recent summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping as a “historic occasion” that marked a new chapter in bilateral cooperation. The remarks came in a congratulatory message sent to Xi to commemorate the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese Communist Party.
According to North Korea’s state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), Kim emphasized his government’s “unshakeable will” to continuously develop and deepen ties with Beijing. He said Pyongyang remains committed to expanding cooperation with China and advancing the traditional friendship between the two neighboring countries.
Kim also praised the recent summit with Xi, calling it a significant milestone in strengthening political trust and strategic cooperation. The meeting, held during Xi’s state visit to Pyongyang in June, was seen as a major diplomatic event that underscored the close relationship between the two countries amid shifting geopolitical dynamics in East Asia.
China has long been North Korea’s most important diplomatic and economic partner, providing crucial trade and political support despite international sanctions imposed on Pyongyang over its nuclear and missile programmes. In recent years, both countries have sought to reinforce their partnership as tensions with the United States and its allies have continued.
The exchange of messages highlights the importance both leaders place on maintaining close bilateral ties. Analysts say the renewed emphasis on cooperation reflects shared strategic interests, including regional stability, economic collaboration and coordination on international issues.
The anniversary of the Chinese Communist Party provided an opportunity for Kim to reiterate North Korea’s support for Beijing while acknowledging China’s role as a key ally. His message signals that Pyongyang intends to further strengthen diplomatic engagement with China, building on the momentum created by the recent summit between the two leaders.
As regional security challenges continue to evolve, closer coordination between North Korea and China is expected to remain a central feature of their foreign policy, with both governments pledging to deepen cooperation and preserve what they describe as a longstanding friendship.
