At the Gulf News Edu fair 2024, held at the H Dubai Hotel, ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) emphasized how its globally recognized qualification is unlocking worldwide career opportunities for finance professionals. Ruqaiyah Abbas, Business Relationship Executive for ACCA’s Middle East team, delivered an insightful presentation titled ‘Pathways to Success in Accounting and Finance,’ highlighting the evolving role of accountants beyond traditional tasks.
“Accounting is no longer just about numbers; it’s about business analysis, regulation, and creativity,” Abbas remarked, addressing a room of aspiring finance professionals. She pointed out that the ACCA qualification is helping professionals meet the rising demand for the top 10 skills identified by the World Economic Forum, reinforcing the need for professional certifications in today’s fast-paced world.
With a 120-year legacy and recognition across 180 countries, ACCA is among the most trusted certifications in finance. Abbas noted, “With over 526,000 aspiring members and 252,000 current professionals globally, our qualification is more than just an academic degree—it’s proof that you’re ready for the workforce upon completion.”
Challenging the conventional educational path, Abbas emphasized the flexibility of ACCA, where students can bypass the traditional route of school, university, and a master’s degree. “ACCA allows students to design their own career trajectory, becoming job-ready faster,” she explained.
Highlighting the benefits of the ACCA program, Abbas listed six reasons to consider the certification, including its global relevance, employer trust, and adaptability. “Our qualification is respected by employers in 180 countries, and you can study at your own pace from anywhere,” she said.
A key feature of ACCA is its extensive professional network, offering students immediate access to a global community of over 252,000 members. “This network can play a crucial role in your career growth—your connections become your greatest asset,” Abbas stated.
The ACCA qualification requires students to complete 13 exams across three levels: Applied Knowledge, Applied Skills, and Strategic Professional, along with an ethics module and 36 months of practical experience. “Students can gain experience through internships, part-time work, or full-time roles in finance, accounting, or auditing,” she explained.
To increase success, Abbas recommended studying with an approved ACCA learning provider, noting that students are 25% more likely to pass the exams when following this route. Additionally, ACCA’s strong partnerships with global accountancy bodies and leading firms, including the Big Four (KPMG, Deloitte, etc.), provide exclusive job opportunities through their ACCA Careers portal.
“Thanks to these collaborations, ACCA students not only graduate with a prestigious qualification but also gain access to top-tier job prospects,” Abbas concluded.
