Tom Daley made a splash at his fifth Olympic Games this year, taking home silver in the men’s synchro 10m platform diving final in Paris. Daley had taken a two-year vacation from diving following his gold medal at the postponed Tokyo Games in 2021.
Tom Daley gave up diving after winning a silver medal at the Olympics in Paris.
In the men’s synchro 10m platform diving final on July 29, Daley and diving partner Noah Williams demonstrated six outstanding dives to secure the second place result in Paris.
Following a two-year hiatus from diving following his gold medal in the postponed 2021 Tokyo Games, the 30-year-old was competing at his sixth Olympic Games.
Daley has stated that one of the reasons he decided to come back was to be able to dive in front of his sons Robbie and Phoenix at an Olympics. Daley’s husband Dustin Lance Black and sons were there in Paris.
Daley stated, “It feels very, very surreal,” in a Vogue interview.
“Knowing that this was my final Olympics, I was really anxious before the competition. Expectations were high and pressure was great. I couldn’t wait to have it finished. However, as soon as I exited the venue and noticed my spouse, children, friends, and relatives there, I thought, “You know what? I did this for precisely this reason.
“I’m here, and regardless of what transpires during the competition, I’ll be content. I was feeling really upset at the end since I knew that this would be my final competition dive.
But eventually I have to make a choice, and now seems like the ideal time. The time to end the day is appropriate.”
With his gold in synchro, three bronzes from home games in London 2012, Rio 2016, and the 10m platform in Tokyo, Daley completed the set with his fifth Olympic medal, a silver in Paris.
