Lebanon has accused Israel of deliberately targeting a journalist who was killed in an air strike in the country’s south, in an incident that has raised fresh concerns about the safety of media workers in conflict zones.
The strike took place in a residential area where journalists had reportedly gathered to cover earlier bombardments. Lebanese officials said the attack was followed by a second strike in the same location, a tactic that has drawn criticism for potentially endangering first responders and reporters on the ground.
According to authorities, the journalist was among several people killed in the incident, while others were injured. Emergency teams faced difficulties reaching the site due to continued strikes and heavy damage in the area.
Lebanese officials condemned the attack, calling it a serious violation of international law and press freedom. They have called for an independent international investigation, stating that journalists must be protected and allowed to work without fear of being targeted.
The Israeli military denied intentionally targeting journalists, saying the strike was aimed at militant infrastructure. It added that efforts are made to minimise harm to civilians during military operations.
The incident has prompted concern from media organisations and international observers, who say it highlights the increasing dangers faced by journalists reporting from conflict areas.
Tensions along the Israel-Lebanon border have remained high in recent months, with frequent exchanges raising fears of further escalation. Diplomatic calls for restraint continue, but the situation remains uncertain.
