Pakistan Is Warned by Saudi Arabia to Keep Beggars Out of the Country

Ninety percent of beggars detained abroad are from Pakistan, according to a research from last year.

According to reports, Saudi Arabia has warned Pakistan to take action against the increasing number of beggars from Pakistan who are entering the nation pretending to be on religious pilgrimages.

There are reportedly increasing numbers of Pakistani beggars entering Saudi Arabia on the pretense of religious pilgrimages, and Saudi Arabia has warned Pakistan to take action against them.

“The Saudi Ministry of Hajj has issued a warning to Pakistan’s Ministry of Religious Affairs, urging action to prevent Pakistani beggars from entering the kingdom under Umrah visas,” said the publication.

In response, the publication stated that Pakistan’s Ministry of Religious Affairs has chosen to propose the “Umrah Act,” which attempts to control and bring under legal supervision travel companies that facilitate Umrah visits.

In addition, the ministry has requested that the Pakistani government devise measures to stop beggars from entering Saudi Arabia pretending to be on a religious pilgrimage.

Sixteen beggars posing as pilgrims were taken into custody when they attempted to board an aircraft headed for Saudi Arabia in September of last year with the intention of engaging in begging there.

A survey from the previous year stated that 90% of beggars who are apprehended abroad are from Pakistan.
