Valentino Turns a Historic Paris Library Into a Runway of Bold Corsets and Gold Jewellery

Valentino transformed one of Paris’ most historic libraries into a dramatic stage for its latest collection, bringing colourful corsets, lace, oversized jewellery and theatrical silhouettes to the French capital during Paris Fashion Week.

Creative director Alessandro Michele presented the Spring/Summer 2027 collection inside the grand reading room of the Bibliothèque Sainte-Geneviève, creating a striking contrast between the historic surroundings and the exuberant designs on the runway.

The show, titled “Antibiblioteca,” reflected Michele’s maximalist approach while drawing on Valentino’s romantic heritage. Tight silk corset tops appeared in vivid shades of blue, yellow and hot pink, paired with contrasting skirts. Strapless dresses added a sensual edge, while flowing silhouettes brought movement to the collection.

The finale delivered one of the show’s most dramatic moments: a floor-length Valentino red gown finished with an enormous black bow. Lace skirts and shirts decorated with ostrich-feather trims added further extravagance, reinforcing the theatrical character of the collection.

Jewellery was just as important as the clothing. Models wore chunky, colourful pieces, including elaborate baroque-inspired gold necklaces and oversized pearl earrings. Studded and sequinned clutches, cross-body bags and statement accessories completed the looks.

Menswear followed the same bold aesthetic. Half-buttoned double-breasted jackets, sequinned shirts, tinted sunglasses and brightly coloured baseball caps gave the men’s looks a playful and unconventional character.

The historic setting became part of the show itself. Guests arrived carrying books, creating a visual connection between fashion and literature while reinforcing the collection’s central theme.

The star-studded audience included actors Alexander Skarsgård and Cynthia Erivo, stylist Law Roach and model Yidan Huang, adding further glamour to the Paris event.

For Michele, the collection also represents an important chapter in Valentino’s evolution. Since joining the Roman fashion house, the designer has been tasked with bringing fresh energy to the brand while maintaining the identity and craftsmanship associated with its long history.

Inside the magnificent library, Valentino offered a powerful reminder that fashion can be more than clothing. Through dramatic silhouettes, vivid colours, extravagant jewellery and an extraordinary setting, the house turned its latest collection into a celebration of glamour, history and imagination.

In Paris, where fashion and art regularly intersect, Valentino’s library spectacle proved that the most memorable runway may be the one that feels less like a catwalk and more like a theatrical experience.
