Hundreds of thousands of people took to the streets in cities around the world over the weekend to show solidarity with Iranian protesters and call for political change in Iran. The coordinated “Global Day of Action” rallies were organized by exiled Iranian leader Reza Pahlavi and drew participants from Europe, North America, Australia, and other regions. Organizers estimated that over a million people joined demonstrations in support of human rights and democratic reforms in Iran.
In Munich, Germany, authorities reported that roughly 250,000 people gathered, chanting slogans calling for the end of Iran’s clerical leadership and waving historical Iranian flags. Demonstrations of similar scale took place in Los Angeles, Toronto, London, Sydney, and Vancouver, where participants demanded an end to violent crackdowns on dissent inside Iran. Smaller gatherings were also reported in cities across the Middle East and Asia.
The global rallies follow weeks of unrest inside Iran, where protests that began over economic hardship have escalated into a widespread movement against the government. Security forces in the country have responded with arrests, internet restrictions, and violent dispersals, leading to mounting international concern. Supporters of the movement say that the worldwide demonstrations aim to amplify the voices of Iranians who are risking their lives to demand freedom, accountability, and human rights.
Demonstrators carried signs calling for unity, democracy, and international support for the Iranian people. Speakers at rallies emphasized that global attention is crucial to pressure Tehran to respect human rights and engage in meaningful reforms. The protests also highlighted the strength and reach of the Iranian diaspora, as citizens abroad sought to make the plight of protesters inside the country visible on the world stage.
The international mobilization represents one of the largest global displays of support for Iran’s civil movement in recent years. Activists said they hope sustained worldwide pressure will encourage political change and help protect those inside Iran fighting for freedom and justice, even as the situation on the ground remains tense and uncertain.
