Russia Launches Massive Missile and Drone Attack on Kyiv, Killing One and Injuring 21

One person has been killed and at least 21 others injured after Russia launched a large wave of missile and drone strikes on Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, in one of the most intense attacks on the city in recent weeks.

Explosions were heard across multiple districts as air raid sirens sounded throughout the night. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed that damage was reported in all parts of the city, including residential buildings, schools, warehouses, a supermarket, and a shopping center.

Among the injured is a 15-year-old boy, with 13 people hospitalized and at least three reported to be in serious condition. Emergency services worked through the night to extinguish fires and rescue residents trapped in damaged buildings.

One of the deadliest strikes hit a nine-story residential building in the Shevchenko district, where a fire broke out on the upper floors after the impact. Falling debris from intercepted missiles and drones also sparked additional fires across the city.

Ukrainian military officials said the attack targeted more than 40 locations in Kyiv, warning that further strikes could follow as air defenses remained on high alert. Military authorities described the assault as a “massive ballistic attack” involving multiple waves of incoming weapons.

The strikes come after Russian President Vladimir Putin vowed retaliation, following allegations of a deadly Ukrainian strike on a student dormitory in the Russian-occupied town of Starobilsk that reportedly killed 18 people.

However, Ukraine’s military has acknowledged carrying out an operation in the Starobilsk area but insists the target was a Russian military unit, not civilians.

As tensions escalate, residents in Kyiv spent much of the night in shelters and underground stations as air defense systems attempted to intercept incoming missiles and drones. Authorities warned citizens to remain alert as the threat of further attacks continues.
